Music Theory Book
Dr. Mugur Doroftei began his education in Bucharest, Romania at the Ciprian Porembescu Conservatory of Music.  He earned his Master of Music degree from this conservatory with a major in Musicology, Theory, Composition, and Conducting. He earned his Ph.D. in Music Theory from the Music Academy of Bucharest (Romania) in 1994.

Dr. Doroftei began orchestrating in 1968 for the Light Opera Orchestra.  Since then, he has orchestrated over two thousand works.  He has published eight books, including textbooks for ear training, music dictation, solfeggio (sight singing) and a violin method for beginners.  His great masterwork, on which he spent fourteen years of his life is the critically acclaimed theory textbook entitled Music Theory Made Clear.  Hailed as one the greatest texts of its kind in the English language, Music Theory Made Clear takes the music student, in a highly organized and understandable fashion, through the most important elements of music theory.

Dr. Doroftei has enjoyed an extensive career as a performing violinist.  In addition to his many appearances as a section first violinist, he served as the Associate Concertmaster of the State Philharmonic Orchestra in Botosani, Romania.  During this period, he participated in many recordings, both for radio and television.  He has toured extensively throughout Austria, West Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Bulgaria, and Hungary.  He has appeared as a soloist with the Focsani State Orchestra and the Moldavian State Orchestra (Russia).  He has conducted many ensembles, but one of the highlights of his career was when he conducted a 5,000 voice Children’s Choir in full concert at Navodari (on the Black Sea) in 1972.

Within the United States, Dr. Doroftei has performed with the Queens Symphony (New York), Queens University and New York University.  He has performed in concert tours throughout Jamaica, Wisconsin, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Louisiana.  He was also very well received in Mexico City, and work is currently underway to translate Music Theory Made Clear into both Spanish and Bulgarian.

He has over twenty-five years of teaching experience, both in Romania and in the U. S.  He taught strings and orchestra to elementary school students of all ages and grades at E. Martinez Elementary School in Dallas, TX. He formed the Keene Camerata, a youth string orchestra, in 1981.  He continues as the Music Director of the Camerata, where he is beloved by all of his students.  Dr. Doroftei currently serves as Artist in Residence at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, TX.  In this university, he is in charge of University concerts and recitals, provides music at special events around the nation, and teaches strings, orchestra, and music theory.
